What is Thomistic Psychology
Thomistic Psychology is derived from the principles identified in the writing of Saint Thomas Aquinas in relation to the nature of the human person and the manner in which they were created by Almighty God to function. Thomistic Psychology considers, under the guidance and wisdom of Holy Mother Church, the ontology of the human person as understood through revelation, theology, and philosophy.
As a psychological science, Thomistic Psychology looks to restore the order to the human person and their intellect that is upset by the presence of mental illness. Saint Thomas emphasized the importance of proper use of our faculties through the development of virtue, the use of logic and reasoning, and an orientation to God as our final end and ultimate happiness in order to accomplish this healing of one's mental health.
Thomistic Psychology restores to the science of psychology and field of mental health treatment a true understanding of the human person and their intellect through a proper understanding of their nature, faculties, and acts. This proper understanding provides a potential for both healing and true, lasting mental health for the individual not found in modern psychology.
